WILLISTON, ND (KXNET) — The annual spring Clean Williston event has officially been scheduled.
The City of Williston announced it will be happening on Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. A back-up date for May 3 is in place in case there is inclement weather. If that happens, it'll be anno
unced on social media and this website.
Everyone is invited to volunteer to beautify the city by signing up for a zone within the city limits to clean.
"Clean Williston is an event that brings our community together and benefits all residents," said the Streets and Refuse Superintendent for the City of Williston, Marc Mohr.
Every year, businesses, organizations, and groups generously donate their time to the Clean Williston effort, which is held biannually in the spring and fall.
"Clean Williston is always one of my favorite times of year. This not only helps the City of Williston, but it helps yourself," said Mayor Howard Klug. "Williston is our hometown, and whether it's you, your family, or your business, we want people to see that we're proud of what we've built here. One of the ways we can show that pride is by keeping our town as clean as possible. We've had great success in the past with help from volunteers and citizens of Williston, and hopefully that continues on for years and years to come."

People can register online for one of the 40 zones; those unable to attend on April 26 are encouraged to clean a zone during the week before the event. They can contact Public Works at (701) 577-6368 to get safety materials and arrange garbage pickup.
Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at Williston Public Works (located at 1121 5th Street East) in the north lot. People who have not registered for a zone will be assigned one. Public Works will be providing safety vests, gloves, and garbage bags.
Full garbage bags can be left on the side of the road, or people can bring them to Public Works to be disposed of. Volunteer should return their vests, gloves, and unused bags to Public Works or leave them with the garbage bags.
Along with collected trash, Public Works will accept these items:
Wood — two containers (trees and construction material), free service
Metal — one contained, free service
Tires — limited to four tires per person
The City of Williston Recycle Center trailer will also be around and will be accepting these items for free:
Cardboard — broken down
Tin & aluminum cans — loose preferred
White paper — loose preferred
