IMPD: Teen arrested after January homicide on near west side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 16-year-old has been arrested in relation to a January homicide on the near west side of Indianapolis.
According to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of N Warman Avenue on a report of shots fired in the ear
ly morning hours of Jan. 20. When officers arrived, they found 37-year-old Rodney Nixon Jr. shot inside an apartment. Nixon was pronounced dead at the scene.
IMPD investigates third domestic-related homicide of 2025
During an investigation into the fatal shooting, IMPD officials said it was learned that a disturbance reportedly occurred inside an apartment that resulted in the shooting. A 16-year-old male was identified as a possible suspect and officials learned that he had an active warrant for dangerous possession of a firearm.
On Jan. 30, 2025, detectives located the teen in the 1100 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and arrested him on the warrant.
As the investigation continued regarding the homicide case, IMPD said that enough probable cause was developed to connect the 16-year-old to the fatal shooting.
