SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) — A man is being charged after allegedly hitting a woman while she was holding her infant child on NC Highway 96 in Johnston County Saturday night, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol says. According to the NCSHP, at around 8:35 p.m., troopers responded to a collisio n involving two pedestrians on NC 96 near NC 50 in Johnston County. A Ford passenger vehicle operated by 34-year-old Jose Medina-Andino was traveling north on NC 96, according to the NCSHP. Troopers said Medina-Andino ran off the right side of the roadway, then struck the woman as she stood next to her vehicle, holding her infant child. According to the NCHSP, the woman and the child sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
