North Carolina mother holding infant hit by impaired driver, troopers say

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) — A man is being charged after allegedly hitting a woman while she was holding her infant child on NC Highway 96 in Johnston County Saturday night, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol says.
According to the NCSHP, at around 8:35 p.m., troopers responded to a collisio
n involving two pedestrians on NC 96 near NC 50 in Johnston County.

A vehicle operated by a woman was parked due to mechanical failure out of the roadway along the northbound shoulder of NC 96. A Ford passenger vehicle operated by 34-year-old Jose Medina-Andino was traveling north on NC 96, according to the NCSHP.
Troopers said Medina-Andino ran off the right side of the roadway, then struck the woman as she stood next to her vehicle, holding her infant child.
According to the NCHSP, the woman and the child sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
Medina-Andino was uninjured and charged with driving while impaired, according to the NCSHP. ...read more read less
