BENSON, N.C. (WNCN) — A high school teacher in Johnston County was arrested Monday on sex crime charges involving a student, deputies said.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a report on March 27 of a sexual assault at West Johnston High School.

d the chorus teacher, 38-year-old Joshua David Johnson of Benson, was accused of sexually assaulting a student at the school. After further investigation, including a detailed disclosure from the student, Johnson was taken into custody.

Johnson is charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a student, a felony offense, in connection with the March incident, according to the sheriff's office.
Following Johnson's arrest, the sheriff's office filed more felony charges against him. A warrant shows he is accused of creating and duplicating sexually explicit material involving a minor in October 2024.
Johnson is charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor in connection with the October incident, according to the warrant.
According to court records, Johnson was given a $75,000 secured bond on the indecent liberties charges and a $200,000 secured bond on the minor exploitation charges.
Court records show Johnson made his first appearance on the indecent liberties charges in Johnston County Court Monday afternoon. He is scheduled to make his first appearance on the minor exploitation charges Tuesday afternoon and his next appearance on the indecent liberties charges on April 17.
According to Johnston County Public Schools, Johnson is no longer employed by the district, effective Monday. ...read more read less
