WILSON, N.Y. (WIVB) — Heading into his junior year at Wilson, Keagan Hermann's teammate made a comment that stuck with him and laid the foundation for the season.
"The goalie, Jake Austin, came up to me after one of our tournaments and he said 'I don't think I've ever won anything wearing a Wil
son jersey,'" said Keegan Herrmann. "I was like what? This can't be possible."
Keegan Herrmann along with the rest of his teammates turned a dream into a reality winning a league and sectional title. He did it with his dad and younger brother right by his side.
"He put in the application and got it back towards the end of my freshman year," said Keegan Herrmann. "He was like I'm going to be your coach. I was like 'oh shoot! This is going to be crazy.'"
Paul Herrmann was the head soccer coach at Wilson for Keegan's final three seasons. Keegan's brother, Cole, was a sophomore on the 2024 team.
"It'll be great 10-15 years down the road when I'm sitting there with the boys at the house," said Paul. "Hopefully their families. Just reminiscing about how cool this experience was."
The trio is super competitive. Their mom actually had to put in a rule where they weren't allowed to talk about soccer away from the field.
"If we started talking about soccer there were a lot of fights," said Keegan. "It was a lot of yelling fights. Lots of rage everywhere. I learned that this might hurt our relationship if we keep doing this outside of soccer."
Keegan will play soccer next fall at Daemen University where he will also study physical therapy. But he didn't get this far without also excelling in the classroom.
"Towards the end of elementary my Mom and Dad put in a rule where if you don't get a 90 or higher, you don't get sports," said Keegan.
Despite all of the records he set and awards he received, Keegan said he's most proud of the team success. He added that it shows all those who will come after him that anything is possible. ...read more read less
