MARYLAND (DC News Now) -- In honor of Arbor Day, Pepco is offering to give out 730 free trees to its customers.

Customers will need to request and reserve a tree, wh
ich will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. A variety of trees will be available to pick from, such as Baldcypress, River Birch, Eastern Redbud, Red Maple and Flowering Dogwood.

Two hundred trees will be available for pickup on May 10 at the Whalen Commons in Poolesville from noon to 3 p.m. The rest of the 530 trees will be delivered in the mail by the end of the month.
According to Pepco, if the trees are planted correctly, they can reduce customers' energy bills by 15 to 30% as they mature by shielding homes from the heat of the sun in the summer and mitigating the cold from winter winds.
