PERRIS — A suspect in the 2019 killing of a 22-year-old man in Perris was arrested, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
In late 2024, Central Homicide Unit investigators began a review of the investigation of the Nov. 6, 2019 fatal shooting of Santiago Diaz, according to the
office.
The review identified new evidence, and the investigation was re-opened.
Investigators identified Jeremy Whittle, 26 of Perris, as a suspect, leading to his arrest Thursday and booking into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder, authorities said.
Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 200 block of East Seventh Street, near Perris Boulevard, on Nov. 6, 2019, to reports regarding shots fired and discovered three people suffering from gunshot wounds, authorities said
Diaz, of Perris, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, sheriff’s officials stated.
Information on a motive for the shooting, if known, was not immediately released by investigators.
Anyone with additional information regarding the case was urged to call Central Homicide Unit Master Investigator S. Denham or Master Investigator V. Magana at 951-955-2777.
