Opening to “Focus on Family” on WISH-TV
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — WISH-TV on Monday launched two exciting new family-centered programs, “Focus on Family” and “Focus on Family & Community.”
They’re designed to strengthen family and community connections. Airing weekdays at 3 p.
m. and 3:30 p.m., the shows mark an innovative approach to local programming, providing viewers with content that aims to inspire, educate, and foster positive connections within their communities.
The debut of “Focus on Family” was led by veteran broadcasters Phil Sanchez, Dakarai Turner and me. The trio kicked off the inaugural episode with a warm welcome to viewers, setting the tone for the show’s mission of bringing families closer together through thoughtful conversation and uplifting content.
We’re so excited to start this new journey together. It feels good to start something new, especially when it’s all about the things that matter most — family and community.
During the opening segment, Sanchez and I humorously bantered about the unpredictable weather, joking that if WISH-TV’s meteorologist Ryan Morse had a superpower, it would be to ensure sunny days year-round. Viewers were encouraged to join the fun, with a “question of the day” inviting the audience to share what superpower they would choose. The lighthearted start to the show set the stage for its main focus—offering practical insights and discussions on how to bring families together.
In addition to the fun, I introduced “Faran’s Focus,” a segment dedicated to motivational messages. Monday’s focus revolved around random acts of kindness, inspired by a quote from actor and film producer Morgan Freeman, which highlighted how small gestures can create meaningful change in the world.
Sometimes, just doing something small can actually make a huge difference in someone’s day, whether it’s a handwritten thank-you note or simply helping someone out, these moments truly matter.
Sanchez added to the conversation, sharing his personal experience of finding joy in doing something kind for others when he’s feeling down. “When you’re having a tough day, doing something nice for someone else can help lift your spirits,” he said.
The debut of “Focus on Family” marks a significant step for WISH-TV, which now produces more than 90 hours of live programming weekly, the most of any TV station in Indiana. The station’s expansion of family-focused content aims to further engage and support the local community by offering programming that resonates with viewers’ everyday lives.
“Focus on Family” is set to air every weekday at 3 p.m., followed by “Focus on Family & Community” at 3:30 p.m., continuing the conversation with topics that matter most to families in the region. The program invites viewers to share their thoughts and interact through social media, fostering a sense of connection beyond the screen.
