Morehead High School student gets prosthetic arm after ATV accident

EDEN, N.C. (WGHP) -- Morehead High School running back Trooper Wright is showing his resilience months after he lost his arm in an ATV accident.
He's pumping iron with the help of his dad, trainer and two arms. Wright, 17, has been wanting to do that for months.
The MHS running back's life cha
nged when he lost his left in an ATV accident in Eden in November 2024.
"Every odd that has come against me, I've been able to beat it," Wright said.
In January, he returned to the gym.
After the Eden community helped raise thousands of dollars to support Wright's journey to recovery, he was able to fly out to the Arm Dynamics clinic in Kansas to get a prosthetic in mid-March.
After going through several week-long physical therapy sessions and testing prototypes, Wright says his physical therapist doubted him.
"He had never had anybody with Arm Dynamics without an elbow be able to bench press. He says the likelihood of me being able to bench wasn't very high, but we went into the gym that day, and I was the first person to be able to bench press with that organization. That definitely helped ... and made the struggles all worth it," Wright said.
Now that he has a prosthetic, Wright says his next step is to get in shape for the 2025 football season.
He credits his journey back under Friday night lights to the community and his faith.
"There's been a lot of tough mental moments ... I have a great community around me that has picked my spirits up, and life isn't over because I lost my arm. A verse that stood out to me is Proverbs 16:9, which talks about man can plan out his path, but God orchestrates his steps. I believe God is the perfect planner, and this is His plan for me," Wright said.
His father says his prosthetic arm cost more than $50,000, and he plans to attend spring football training camp for MHS in May. ...read more read less
