LAMBEAU FIELD, Wis. (WFRV) - You probably know him as 'Mean Gene The Dancing Machine' and have seen him hanging out at Lambeau Field over the years.
Family members tell Local 5 News that iconic Packers superfan Eugene Greening passed away over the weekend at age 80 from heart disease.
"He'd
bring his own jukebox, set it down on the ground," said 'Mean Gene's' friend and fellow Packers superfan Wayne Sargent. "Always going around and dancing and just happy go lucky guy."
Sargent said he met 'Mean Gene' at a pep rally ahead of the Packers Super Bowl in 2011. He said their friendship grew through their love of the Green Bay Packers and 'Mean Gene's' contagious charisma.

Decked out in Packers gear with a cheesehead with a 'Bears still suck' button on it, Mean Gene was a gameday staple around Lambeau Field. He would seek out bands performing ahead of the game and tear up the dance floor and he particularly enjoyed hanging out at Kroll's.
He was a people person through and through.
"He loved the Packers no doubt about it, but his true love was the fans," Sargent said. "He loved meeting people, he loved being with people. He was so real and so sincere and he loved people."
