AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Talk of a new home for the Broncos heated up again Monday, as the team’s co-owner and CEO fielded questions about a possible new stadium at the yearly NFL owner’s meetings in Florida, including listing a couple of possible locations in the metro area.
Empower Field at
Mile High has been the Broncos' home since 2001. But co-owner and CEO Greg Penner made it seem more likely than ever that it won’t be for the next 20.

“We want to create what’s the best option for the next 40 or 50 years, not 10 or 20 years," said Penner.
He went on to mention possible locations the front office has looked at around the metro area.
“We’re still looking at the current site, other sites around Denver, Lone Tree, Aurora," said Penner.
A move out of the historic Mile High location in Denver has long been the public speculation, Penner further fueling that idea by name-dropping Aurora and Lone Tree. Two cities that MSU Denver sports marketing lecturer Darrin Duber-Smith said could see a major economic boost from a new stadium.
“Any city is going to benefit from initially the construction jobs and tax revenue, whatever revenue there is in there," said Duber-Smith.
He said even more jobs would likely also come to existing and new businesses in the area.
“The restaurants and hotels. You have to build services when you have a giant facility like that," said Duber-Smith.

Another point to consider in a move, he says, is ease of access for fans. While the current site has multiple highways in and out, he believes the others may need to boost their infrastructure.
“I would be concerned about south Denver because the traffic is already horrible," said Duber-Smith.
FOX31 reached out to both the cities of Aurora and Lone Tree for comment on this story. Aurora declined to comment. The city of Lone Tree provided the following statement:
"We are always open to ideas that support the vision of the Lone Tree City Center as a destination urban center, first envisioned when voters annexed the area into Lone Tree. The City and the property owner have worked for decades to ready the site for regional destination development, including transit investments into the heart of the City Center. At this time, no proposals have been submitted for the Lone Tree City Center."

While Penner said management is continuing to look at the team’s current site as a viable option, Duber-Smith said there isn’t much of a need for that kind of facility anymore in the city.
“Denver has a lot of other venues now, Denver didn’t used to have a lot of venues," he said. "It has tons of venues now, so what are you really going to put in that stadium? There’s not going to be that much.”
Can the Broncos beat their over/under in wins?
Duber-Smith believes there are more profitable uses for that property, like more housing.
As far as the future goes, however, it’s still impossible to know exactly what those next few decades for the Broncos have in store.
“We’re continuing our diligence," said Penner. "As I mentioned before, it’s complex. We haven’t ruled anything out.” ...read more read less
