Mar 31, 2025
MANDAN, ND (KXNET) — Starting next Monday, April 7, Western Plains Public Health is celebrating the 30th year of National Public Health Week.
The theme for this year is "It Starts Here," which reflects on the last 30 years of health-related progress and looks to the future, with a focus on cre
ating environments that promote mental, physical, and emotional well-being for everyone.
Public health encompasses many elements of our lives, playing a role in the safety and well-being of our communities. It impacts our daily lives in many ways, from the water we drink to the air we breathe. Public health protects and improves the health of all people and their communities, through efforts to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote health.
“Public health starts with all of us," says a press release from Western Plains. "When we support one another, share knowledge, and advocate for healthier communities, we create a foundation where everyone can thrive.”

Communities play a role in this effort by sharing reliable information with their citizens, advocating for health-focused policies, and getting involved in local initiatives. Sharing reliable information can help people within the community make informed health decisions. Engaging with local organizations can build strong support systems and promote healthier lifestyles.
People can also contribute to the public health effort by taking action in their own communities. This can include advocating, and joining organizations that promote the health and welfare of fellow members of the community.
Western Plains Public Health invites the community to participate in National Public Health Week in person and through virtual events. The week will go from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13, giving people a chance to celebrate public health accomplishments, assess challenges, and create a vision for the future.
