Merced County responds to library privatization concerns

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Merced County responded to public concern surrounding the privatization of public libraries on Monday, calling the assertions "false narratives."
The county said there was never any conversation regarding library closures nor was there any conversation about
reducing library services or budget. They also said there was no item planned in the past or future for board consideration.
However, county officials did say there was a routine staff-level evaluation to explore whether potential efficiencies could be realized by using a different model.
County officials say that in order to support their taxpayers, they must routinely evaluate the most cost-effective way to deliver their services and programs.
The evaluation has been completed, however, and the county has decided not to pursue the alternative model. ...read more read less
