Man arrested after chase along river embankment in Madera County

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit through the embankment of the river and underneath Highway 99 in Madera County Monday, the city's police department said.
Police say that on Monday morning, they received a report of a vehicle that was stol
en from the 200 block of North N. Street.
Officers, according to police, canvassed the area and located the stolen vehicle near the dead end of Terrace Place.
As officers attempted to apprehend the driver, he chose to drive behind the apartment complex along the south side of the Fresno River.
Police say officers continued to pursue the driver as he proceeded along the embankment of the river and underneath the Highway 99 overpass.
According to officers, the vehicle came to a stop as it entered into a ravine. Police say the driver, who was identified as 44-year-old Charles Driver, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Driver was arrested on several felony charges and booked into the Madera County Jail. ...read more read less
