FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – An armed security guard from the Switch Nightclub returned gunfire after a shooting in Fresno Sunday, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Police say that just after midnight on Sunday, officers made a traffic stop near the nightclub and heard gunshots coming
from the parking lot.
As officers arrived at the business, they were told a shooting suspect had fled on foot, firing at security guards and patrons.
Officers say they found the suspect, 26-year-old Ian McDonough, hiding near a business dumpster with a bullet wound to his lower leg.
Officials say officers were also told that a shooting victim, a 26-year-old man, had just been dropped off at a local hospital.
From witness statements and surveillance videos, detectives say they determined that McDonough and the shooting victim had been in a verbal argument in the parking lot. During the argument, McDonough allegedly pulled out a handgun and began firing at the victim.
Detectives say McDonough continued to fire as he fled from the scene. An armed security guard from the Switch Nightclub returned fire, striking McDonough in the leg.
Detectives say they recovered the handgun that McDonough used, as well as clothing that he removed as he fled.
After being treated for his injuries at the hospital, police say McDonough was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm.
The shooting victim is still at the hospital, currently listed in stable condition, according to police. ...read more read less
