Feds: Connecticut man made down payment on contract murder during Vermont drug buy

A federal grand jury has indicted a Connecticut man who allegedly canceled a $1,000 drug debt as a down payment on a scheme to murder a man he believed had stolen from him.,
Tremaine Knight, also known as “Brody,” 43, of Hartford, will be arraigned this week on charges of distribution of fen
tanyl and cocaine and murder for hire.
According to court records, a confidential informant working with police made five purchases of drugs from Knight in February and March 2025.
The first three buys were allegedly in Massachusetts. During one of them, Knight allegedly offered the informant $10,000 man to murder a man who had disrespected and stolen from him,
Prosecutors allege Knight shared a plan for the murder during subsequent drug deals, incuding two in Brattleboro.
In the first, Knight sold about 140 grams of powder cocaine and over 40 grams of fentanyl to the informant. During the second, Knight sold another 1500 grams of powder cocaine, 30 grams of cocaine base and 85 grams of fentanyl to the informant.
He also allegedly canceled a drug debt as a $1,000 down payment on the murder scheme. Knight was taken into custody following that buy.
Knight faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the murder-for-hire charge and up to 40 years on the drug charges. Knight is scheduled be arraigned Thursday in Burlington. ...read more read less
