(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in the Downtown area on Monday, March 31 after police say he was breaking into cars and threatened someone with a gun be
fore police arrived.
According to CSPD, officers responded shortly after 2:15 p.m. to a parking lot at the corner of South Nevada Avenue and Pikes Peak Avenue on a report of a man breaking into cars and threatening a community member with a gun.
Once on scene, CSPD said the suspect exited a car with a gun, and one officer fired shots at the suspect, hitting him. Emergency medical aid was provided to the suspect, but he was declared dead on scene. A gun was recovered from the scene.
No other community members or officers were injured in the shooting. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) is investigating the shooting, and asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact either the EPSO non-emergency line at (719) 390-5555 or the CSPD non-emergency line at (719) 444-7000.
Pikes Peak Avenue as well as the parking lot where the shooting took place will remain closed for an extended period of time, CSPD said.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is responding to an officer-involved shooting in Downtown Colorado Springs.
CSPD posted about the shooting shortly after 3:15 p.m. on Monday, March 31, and said the incident took place in the 00 block of South Nevada Avenue, near Pikes Peak Avenue.
CSPD said the area of Pikes Peak Avenue and South Nevada would be closed for several hours, likely into the evening. Anyone whose travel plans take them Downtown should consider alternate routes.
