Inmate gets additional 8 years for assaulting officer in prison

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A man was sentenced to additional time in prison after being found guilty of assaulting a correctional officer in prison.
Oshea Mann, 32, was sentenced to eight years in prison on March 28. A Kern County jury found Mann guilty of battery on a correctional officer on
March 3.

The court later found true that Mann had been previously convicted of battery with serious bodily injury, the DA’s Office said.
Mann was an inmate at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano. On March 15, 2019, correctional officers escorted Mann to a medical clinic at the prison and he was seated in a chair in the hallway to wait for his treatment, according to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
Afterwards, Mann jumped up and struck a correctional officer on the left side of his face with his head, causing an injury near the officer’s left eye, the DA’s Office said. Mann was detained after a significant struggle.

According to the DA’s Office, the jury in May 2019 failed to reach a verdict on separate charges that accused Mann of spitting in an officer’s face while changing cells.
Those charges were dismissed at the sentencing hearing on March 28, court records show. ...read more read less
