2 dead after car goes airborne, strikes overhead sign

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Two people were killed after a car traveling on eastbound State Route 94 through San Diego went airborne, struck a sign and landed on its roof.

For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway of the transition ramp, soared into the air and struck an overhead sign.
The Challenger landed on its roof within the westbound lanes of SR-94, authorities stated.
The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names are being withheld pending family notification by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office.
According to CHP, debris from the crash caused minor damage to another vehicle, but no one else was injured.
