Robbinsville Mayor announces end to his term in office, will not run for reelection
Mar 31, 2025
Mayor Dave Fried is not running for reelection in Robbinsville, setting the stage for just the second elected mayor in the town’s history.
“The opportunity to both serve and raise a family in what I consider the best, most kind-hearted town in New Jersey has been a privilege and the greatest hon
or of my life,” Fried said in a statement posted to the Mayor’s and the Township’s Facebook pages.
“Come January 15, 2026, for the first time since being selected to fill an unexpired term in 2000 under the prior Township Committee form of government, I will not be your mayor.”
Fried was first selected to fill an unexpired term in 2000 under the prior Township Committee form of government. He became the first mayor directly elected by the voters and was sworn in on July 1, 2005, by then-U.S. Attorney Chris Christie. He was then re-elected for four full terms as mayor.
“I have long said the most difficult and rewarding thing anyone can do is put their name on an election ballot. This November, for the first time in almost a quarter century, my name will not be on that ballot,” Fried’s statement said. “While endlessly proud of what we have accomplished together, the time has come to step aside and allow a new leader to chart his/her own course for Robbinsville’s future. Hopefully, the roads we have paved together throughout this diverse town so rich in history and possibilities will help guide your next mayor to even greater success.”
Fried thanked his family, colleagues, township employees, and supporters in the statement.
“Finally, to the residents of Robbinsville and Windsor. Thank you.” Fried said. “Thank you for your support. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for your generosity and for your enormous hearts. Thank you for 25 unforgettable years as your leader. May God bless you all.”
The Trentonian reached out to Fried directly for additional comment, but has not received a reply as of deadline for this story.
Fried’s colleagues on Township Council also posted a statement about Fried’s impending departure.
“It is hard to remember a time when Dave Fried was not our mayor here in Robbinsville Township,” the statement said. “The governing body is beyond grateful for his leadership, support, friendship, and the beautiful community he helped create these past 25 years. The care, commitment, love, and sacrifice he has given to Robbinsville will never be forgotten. I think all of Council would agree that it has been a true honor working alongside Mayor Fried. He taught us so much and has been a shining example of what a kind, caring leader looks like. Robbinsville was taken to new heights under his leadership, and you, Dave, can walk away proud of all you have accomplished. We wish you nothing but happiness and will forever be thankful for all that you have done for each of us.”
Robbinsville Police Department issued a statement about Fried’s decision.
“The members of the Robbinsville Police Department would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mayor Dave Fried for his unwavering support and guidance over the past 25 years. Your dedication to making Robbinsville the best community in all of New Jersey has been invaluable, and your leadership has truly made a lasting impact.”
“Under your leadership, Robbinsville has become a community defined by kindness and support,” the police department’s statement said. “You have consistently provided words of encouragement, helping many of us achieve goals we never thought possible. Your determination to find solutions and never give up has inspired us all.” ...read more read less
