Stillwater, OK - Wyatt Hendrickson's storybook season is now complete. Hendrickson was named the Hodge Trophy winner given to the nations top D1 wrestler. It's considered the Heisman Trophy of wrestling.
Hendrickson completed an undefeated season going 27-0, capturing a Big 12 championship and a
shocking national championship upsetting Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson.
Hendrickson becomes the third OSU wrestler to win the Hodge Trophy joining Steve Mocco and Alex Dieringer. He's just the eighth heavyweight to win claim the honor.
The trophy is named for former Perry and Oklahoma wrestler Danny Hodge and was created in 1994. Former winners, retired coaches, national wrestling organizations, national media members and a fan poll made up the voting class.
It's just the latest in a long list of superlatives Hendrickson has earned this year. He was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Year along with the NCAA's Most Dominant Wrestler of the Year. An honor he's earned three times.
"Captain America," a nickname that stems from his days at Air Force, concludes his career with a record of 127-11, three All-America honors, 60 wins over ranked opponents, 72 pins, 16 technical falls, and 16 major decisions.
