(WAVY) - Mr. Monopoly himself was at the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach Friday. He wasn't there to put a bid on the property, but rather helped unveil the new MONOPOLY: Virginia Beach Edition board game. Mr. Monopoly was joined by Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer and local business representatives for the special event. A life-size version of the new game, along with giant dice and cards, was available at the event for guests to enjoy. Photo provided by The Hodges Partnership This is the first licensed version of the game to feature landmarks in Hampton Roads. There's only one other licensed version in all of Virginia. A Richmond Edition was released in 2023. The game was introduced by Top Trumps USA, an official Hasbro Licensee. Last year, the company asked the public to submit suggestions on which landmarks in the resort city should be featured on the board. “We appreciate everyone who suggested landmarks, organizations and businesses that make Virginia Beach unique and truly special. And we are pleased so many of them raced in to win the opportunity for a place on the board,” said Katie Bradshaw, a Top Trumps USA representative. “It’s our hope that what we’ve created with MONOPOLY: Virginia Beach Edition is something that residents and visitors will cherish for years to come.” The spaces on the Virginia Beach board game feature the following destinations: Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, First Landing State Park, Mount Trashmore Park, McDonald Garden Center, Sandler Center Foundation, Peabody’s Nightclub, Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Aldo’s Ristorante and Coastal Grill. The game also has customized Community Chest and Chance cards.
