FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A man could spend more than three decades in prison for allegedly firing shots inside a northeast Fort Wayne Kroger last year.
Richard Klaff Jr., 21, pleaded guilty Friday to three counts of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony.
On May 23, 2024, Klaff allegedly fired m
ultiple shots in the grocery store while streaming on Facebook Live. He could be heard spewing racial slurs and claiming he wanted to kill 11 people, according to court documents in the case.
Nobody was actually hit by the bullets, and Klaff is accused of running off to a nearby store where he changed clothes and dumped his gun, cell phone and wallet. He was found by police a short time later.
If a judge accepts the plea deal at Klaff's sentencing, he would be handed 40 years in prison with seven of those years suspended. After serving 33 years behind bars, Klaff would be on probation for the next seven years. A criminal recklessness charge would also be dismissed.
According to court documents, Klaff told police he “always wanted to kill somebody, that’s all I wanted to do, I was supposed to go to the military, I couldn’t wait on that, obviously.”
Klaff's sentencing is scheduled for April 25. ...read more read less
