Charlotte man seriously injured after shooting during NCAA Tournament at State Farm Arena in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA – A Charlotte man was shot just blocks away from State Farm Arena in Atlanta where NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games were held on Friday.
Officers say they responded to Luckie Street NW and Mills Street NW just after 6:30pm on Friday, March 27th in regards to one person being s
hot. Upon arrival, officers located a 42-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition and was admitted to the ICU. Atlanta Police held a news conference to clear some confusion between this shooting and another case that happened Friday in Atlanta where they say local rapper Young Scooter was killed.
Due to the confusion, many media organizations initially thought the Charlotte man was killed but police clarified that the victim in the shooting near the arena is still in the ICU.
Atlanta Police confirmed that the victim was from Charlotte in a news conference video posted to Facebook on Friday night.
The additional case police say caused confusion, was not connected to the shooting involving the victim from Charlotte.
As additional information was released, the public was informed that famous Atlanta-based rapper, Young Scooter, was killed but not in connection with the shooting mentioned above.
Police say the rapper’s death was a “freak accident” as he suffered a serious leg injury while jumping over several fences while running from police, following a 911 call. This incident was not related to the shooting of the Charlotte man, according to police.
Young Scooter, whose real name is Kenneth Bailey, launched his career in 2008. He has worked on projects with other rappers such as Rick Ross, Birdman, and Gucci Man.
