The Lake County commissioners have adopted a resolution authorizing Lake County Engineer Alan Exley as the local public agent with the director of the Ohio Department of Transportation for the Tyler Road Bridge Replacement Project in Mentor. According to the Ohio Revised Code, the director (Pamela V est Boratyn) “may coordinate the activities of ODOT with other appropriate public authorities and enter into contracts with such authorities as necessary to carry out its duties, powers, and functions.” In a letter to the commissioners, Exley confirmed that the project entails the replacement of two bridges in Mentor, and that “his office has received federal highway (local bridge) funding approval from the County Engineers Association of Ohio and the authority to utilize those funds at a rate of 80 percent, up to a maximum participation of $2,777,440.” He added that the local public agent agreement “is required for participation in the program funding.” The board noted that its recent, unanimous action reflects “the mutual desire of both ODOT and Lake County to have Exley act as the Lake County local public agent to serve as the administrative lead,” adding that the department will maintain project oversight. ...read more read less
