StormTracker 8: VIPIR Alert: Severe T’Storms 3pm – Midnight

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - It is a VIPIR Alert day across Central Virginia which means we are going to be looking for the risk of strong to severe storms. The main time frame for those storms will be from 3:00 p.m. through midnight tonight and the main threats are damaging winds more than 60 miles per h
our small hail up to 1 inch in diameter and possibly a tornado or two although the primary threat for the risk of tornadoes looks to be for areas south of Richmond all the way through the North Carolina Virginia state line.
We will start today off with cloudy skies, and it will be warm and windy today as we climb to near 85. Those thunderstorms will develop out to the west after 2:00 p.m. and slowly work their way into Metro Richmond by 6:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. after 9:00 and 10:00 they will be closer to our Coastal communities and moving out into the Chesapeake Bay.
We will see cloudy skies after midnight tonight slowly break apart and give way to partly cloudy skies by early Tuesday morning. Our overnight lows will fall back to near 50.
Tuesday will feature plenty of sunshine and it will be a pleasant day with highs near 65.
Wednesday will feature partly sunny skies with highs near 70.
More clouds will roll back in for Thursday giving us a mixture of clouds and sunshine with highs 80 to 85.
Friday is the opening day of your Richmond Flying Squirrels and right now it looks to be mostly cloudy and warm with highs near 85 but there is the chance for a few showers here and there.
Saturday will feature mostly cloudy skies with a few more showers and highs near 75.
Sunday will feature mostly cloudy skies with a chance of a late day thunderstorm with highs near 70.
