LEESBURG, Va. (WPRI) — After giving up two quick goals in the first half, Rhode Island FC fell 2-0 to Loudoun United FC on Saturday.
In the 35th minute, Loudoun's Abdellatif Aboukoura opened the scoring for the home team. Off an assist from Andrew Skundrich, Aboukoura dribbled through three Rh
ode Island defenders and buried his shot from just inside the 18-yard box.
Just five minutes later, Aboukoura struck again, this time off an assist from Florian Valot’s long throw-in.
Rhode Island almost got a goal back two minutes later when Maxi Rodriguez got on the end of a cross at the top of the box, but it was saved by Loudoun goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux.
Aside from one shot on target from Rodriguez in the second half, Rhode Island struggled to generate more chances.
Rhode Island continues to look for their first win of the season as they head to the West Coast to take on Oakland Roots SC in California.
Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
