Drunk drivers crash into power poles while racing in North Carolina, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Emergency crews are still repairing power poles and investigating the scene of an illegal race that turned into a serious crash on Glenwood Avenue.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to a crash around 2 a.m. involving drunk drivers racing each
other down the 2200 block of Glenwood Avenue.
A spokesperson with the police said both drivers crashed and one hit multiple utility poles. Although they sustained minor injuries, the spokesperson said both drivers were arrested and faced charges related to drunk driving.

Officers said they are redirecting drivers off Glenwood Avenue between Byrd Street and White Oak Road while Duke Energy and other emergency responders handle the scene. They anticipate reopening Glenwood Avenue around 2 p.m.
