PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — There is a Level 3/Enhanced Risk of severe weather from the Triad eastward and a Level 2/Slight Risk for our mountains and foothills.  The strongest storms are expected between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the primary threats being damaging winds (>58 mph), larg e hail (>1"), and isolated tornadoes. A powerful cold front will cross the North Carolina mountains today, bringing a severe weather threat to the entire Piedmont later this afternoon. Highs will be in the mid-70s this afternoon and the chance of rain is 80%. We will have clearing skies overnight with lows in the upper-40s. Tuesday will be the prettiest day of the week by far!  Sunny skies with highs near 70° are expected to bring lots of folks out to enjoy the day. A warm front to our south will move northward, across the Piedmont Wednesday morning.  We will have some fog and mostly cloudy skies for the day, with highs in the lower-70s.  Thursday and Friday, we will be deeply immersed in the warm, humid air, and highs are going to steadily climb as a result.  Skies continue to be mostly cloudy and highs will rise to the lower-80s on Thursday and then to the upper-80s on Friday afternoon.   Over the weekend, a cold front will start to close in on the Carolinas.  Saturday, we will have mostly cloudy skies with a 25% chance of showers.  Highs are going to remain warm in the mid-80s.  By Sunday, however, the cold front begins to march across the Piedmont, and we will have a 50% chance of thunderstorms.  Highs on Sunday will be cooler, in the upper-70s. ...read more read less
