AM Headlines:
Severe Threat Today
Cooler Tuesday
Jumping into Summer Late Week
Discussion:
A cold front will push into the Carolinas today bringing the risk of severe storms to the region. A strong low pressure system is moving across the Great Lakes, dragging in a surge of warm, humid air
from the Gulf. This will be fueling strong, fast moving storms with enough spin in the atmosphere to support a torando or two, especially near and south and east of the Charlotte Metro region. Expect the main threat to begin around midday and clear by 8pm moving west to east. The storm prediction center has highlighted a level 3 out of 5 severe threat for the area.
Timing:
12pm – 4pm Mountains and Foothills
2pm – 6pm Charlotte Metro Region I-77 Corridor
4pm – 8 pm East of I-77
Threats:
Damaging Wind Gusts = Main Concern
A Few Tornadoes – especially east of I-77
Small Hail
Heavy, but fast downpours
Behind the front we will dry out quickly. Tuesday brings sunshine and breezy northwest winds with cooler temperatures settling in briefly as highs drop into the low 70s. The cool down won’t last long and we’ll be launched right into summer-like heat by midweek. A strong upper level ridge builds into the southeast Wednesday, locking in heat and dry weather. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 80s by midweek and could approach 90 by Friday. Overnight lows will even stay mild, only falling into the mid 60s. This brings back the elevated fire danger with minimal rain chances until late in the weekend.
