HONOLULU (KHON2) — A teacher and coach at Pacific Buddhist Academy is on a mission to prove no goal is impossible with perseverance and hard work. He'll be running the perimeter of Oahu to fundraise for his students on April 5.
Roman Chavez, a humanities teacher and Cross Country and Golf coach
, said he doesn't do much besides waking up, working and running – at least fifteen miles a day, that is. On the weekends, he'll run even more.

"Saturday, Sunday I'll do like 20 or 25 on both those days," Chavez said. "I really don't like it. I hate it. It's like the the most uncomfortable thing I do. My couch is calling out to me, the TV's calling out to me. I look over and I see my shoes by the door and I choose the shoes, but it's just like a discipline thing."
He's been training to run the full perimieter around Oahu since October 2023.

"It ends up being around 136 miles. At the moment, the fastest time is 25 hours. I'm shooting to be right around there," Chavez said.
Chavez hopes to fundraise about $10,000 for his students at PBA. The funds will go towards upgrading the weight room, uniforms and financial aid.
"As a teacher, our job is more than teaching. It's about teaching life skills and sharpening their character. This is such a ridiculous goal, I want to set an example for my kids. Everything that seems unrealistic and impossible – you find out it's quite manageable if you just take it one step at a time," Chavez said.
