JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A man was shot and killed by police in the parking lot of a Food Lion off of Richmond Road and Olde Towne Road by the Williamsburg Premium Outlets Sunday afternoon, police said. (WAVY viewer photos) James City County Police said the shooting took place ar ound 4:55 p.m. in the parking lot of the Food Lion, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. James City County police and fire departments are at the scene. There will be a heavy police presence throughout Sunday evening, James City County Police said, and they are advising the public to avoid the area, but added there is no ongoing threat to the community. Virginia State Police is on the scene and will be conducting the investigation. James City County Police said there would be more details as they become available.
