Indiana Muslims celebrate end of Ramadan
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Local Muslims on Sunday celebrated the end of Ramadan at the Indiana Convention Center for the United Eid al-Fitr Prayer Celebration.
Thousands joined in prayer for the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” to end the holy month.
Ramadan is a time of fasting and reflection, ending in a joyful celebration. Organizers also see this as an opportunity to share their culture with neighbors.
“First of all, Muslims are an essential part of America. But also, these are Hoosiers,” said Ahmed Alamine, executive director of the Indianapolis Muslim Community Association. “And the goal is to show our fellow Hoosiers that we are here.”
Organizers were expecting 10,000 people Sunday, but they believe they may have exceeded that goal in what was the largest gathering of its kind in the state.
