Geauga and Portage Soil and Water Conservation districts will again offer the Advanced Wonders of Watersheds workshop and this summer’s educator workshop will take an in-depth look at freshwater studies with a special focus on empowering students with knowledge and hope in the changing climate. Th e program will take place June 24-26 with learning adventures throughout the Lake Erie basin while lodging at Old Woman Creek, one of Ohio’s best remaining natural estuaries, according to a news release. Through outdoor investigations, field exploration, and curriculum resources, teachers will learn about natural resource and climate change challenges, impacts, and behavioral solutions such as composting, the release stated. With assistance from a Go Green Community Grant through the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District, the workshop will dig into how backyard and schoolyard composting reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improves soil health, and increases carbon sequestration.
