Dozens protest Elon Musk outside Castleton Tesla dealership
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Dozens gathered outside a Tesla dealership in Castleton to protest Elon Musk and his federal government cuts as the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency.
The demonstrations were a part of the inte
rnational “Global Day of Action” organized by protesters across the country and world to oppose Musk’s recent moves in his new role. At least 200 protests took place in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Several people made their voices heard on Saturday outside of the Tesla dealership in Castleton.
“It’s a coverup for what they are wanting to do,” John Walters said. “Basically, to dismantle the government so that people like Musk can take over and take their parts of the government, similar to what happened over in Russia with the oligarchs.”
Walters worked for the federal government for decades, until he recently retired. He’s against Musk’s push to shrink the federal workforce through DOGE.
“Things like getting rid of the probationary employees, illegally firing them,” Walters said. “It’s not saving them anything because they’ve just hired them all back and now they are putting them on administrative leave so they can fire them again.”
Walters joined the dozens of protestors to call on people to sell their Tesla vehicles and shares in hopes of slashing Musk’s pocketbook in retaliation to cuts.
Since January, Tesla dealerships have been vandalized and vehicles have been set on fire. But, demonstrators on Saturday said they were focused on peace.
“I’m here today as a retired person representing families and friends and many others,” protestor Keith Gerber said. “I’ve written to our senators and representatives, and God help us all to represent people in the constituencies to stand up to Musk and to Trump, who are raiding Social Security and other agencies.”
The Trump administration recently issued a warning over the anti-Tesla rhetoric. Both FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi have called acts against the auto giant “acts of terrorism.”
Organizers said Saturday they have several more protests planned for the future.
