Party for a purpose: After Dark's 34th annual AIDs Benefit
Mar 29, 2025
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Nearly 30 drag performers are hitting the stage in wigs and makeup for a long night of jokes and singing for Fort Wayne nightclub After Dark's 34th Annual AIDs Benefit on Saturday.
Benefit chair Brandon "Della Licious" Blaettner said drag shows have helped fundraise f
or everything from cancer research to burial costs.
"They always ask the drag queens, 'Hey, can you put on a show?' and we get donations from everyone in the crowd," Blaettner said. "Drag has always been like the firefighters who come in and try to raise money to help."
All proceeds are going towards the Positive Resource Connection, a non-profit which provides AIDs education, prevention and testing in Northeast Indiana.
Blaettner said the annual fundraiser could not have come at a better time. With recent federal cuts made within the health care system, he said After Dark's annual fundraiser hopes to be a boost for grassroots health care.
"It's important that the community knows about these resources and that the community supports something that supports the community so much." Blaetter said. "I mean you may not knowingly know anyone who has HIV, but I'm sure you know people who do, they just haven't said anything."
The benefit is $5 to get in the door.
Compounded after 34 years of hosting the benefit, After Dark has raised over one million dollars for the Positive Resource Connection.
The nightclub's AID's awareness does not end on Saturday.
After dark also hosts HIV testing and educational events. To keep up with After Dark events, follow it's Facebook page. ...read more read less
