Overnight temperatures will be mild, as lows will only drop into the mid-50s to lower 60s. This is nearly 20-30 degrees above climatology lows for late March.
A disturbance well ahead of a cold front will move in on Sunday and into Sunday night, bringing light on-and-off showers. Above-normal
temperatures will continue.
On Monday, a major cold front moves in, and widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecast late into the afternoon and evening. The greatest threat from any Monday storm will be damaging winds, but hail and tornadoes are also possible. The Storms Prediction Center (SPC) has maintained a Slight Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for the entire DMV. After the front passes, temperatures will fall late Monday night into early. On Tuesday morning, the sun will return in the front's wake, and 80-degree weather will take a temporary pause. There could even be a few flurries across the highest peaks of the Alleghenies.
High pressure will visit the DMV on Tuesday, leading to mainly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-50s to lower 60s. Tuesday night, under partly cloudy skies, low temperatures will be in the 30s for most, with lower 40s in DC and the surrounding area.
Wednesday is also looking to be a dry day, with the next storm system along with the bulk of the precipitation and this system staying away for another day. A warm front with the next disturbance will lift through Wednesday night, and a few sprinkles could be seen in parts of the region. Wednesday's high temperatures will be in the mid-50s to mid-60s. There will be unseasonably warm conditions on Thursday, with highs back into the 70s to lower 80s. Skies are forecast to stay mostly cloudy, with passing showers possible.
Thursday's storm will head into Canada by Friday, allowing its cold front to stall near the DMV. More showers and thunderstorms may be possible, with the most significant coverage expected along and north of the front.
