Bristol softball improves to 50 with victory over Lawrenceville Prep
Mar 29, 2025
BRISTOL, Pa. — It’s no secret if the Bristol High softball team is going to finally break through against the up-state teams in the playoffs it’s going to have to go toe to toe in a slugging match against the big and strong girls from the so-called “coal country.”
Well, if Saturday’s 13-
3 destruction of Lawrenceville Prep was any indication, Bristol looks ready to possibly do just that after significantly closing the gap in a two-run quarterfinal loss last year to Class 2A state finalist South Williamsport.
“Every day we work hard on our hitting,” said Bristol coach Dave Chichilitti. “We want to play with intensity. We want to be able to put four runs on the board at any moment. We want to throw haymakers at anytime.”
Bristol (5-0) certainly did just that against Lawrenceville (0-2) and the best part is it did it against a competent pitcher in Emma Sung.
The assault began right away with three runs in a bottom of the first that featured doubles by Brianna Slack, Lucianna Snyder and Cayleigh Januszka. In addition to hitting the ball hard, Bristol did not foul off many pitchers as its batters saw the ball well and aggressively swung the bats.
Four more runs followed in the second when Snyder stroked another RBI double and Grace Boyle singled home a run.
The merry go round just went on and on from there as the Warriors put four more on the board in the third and two more in the fourth to put the run-rule in effect.
The team’s clean-up batter, Snyder blasted three doubles in all and finished with five RBIs. Bell, who is drawing collegiate interest, had three hits in the lead-off slot with a triple and Slack collected three hits with a double and triple.
While the top of the lineup led the charge, batters further down the order also showed they can put the ball in play and contribute.
As for Bristol’s pitching, Slack was outstanding for the first four innings when she yielded just one hit and struck out eight batters.
The lone highlight for Lawrenceville came in the fifth when Slack seemed to lose a bit of her focus and walked two batters to start the inning. Lawrenceville lead-off batter Lily Sung made her pay with a three-run homer to center field to complete the scoring for the game. Lily Song, by the way, is just a freshman and swings the bat well.
“I’m very happy,” said Chichilitti.”I liked the way our girls came out ready to play. We still have a few things to work out in the field, but our players are stronger than from a year ago. They are more mature.”
One thing that won’t happen this year at Bristol is Senior Night. You can say that because there’s not a single senior on the roster, which is another huge positive for a group of girls who are clearly on an upwards arch.

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. — The Eagles gave the perennial Delaware state power a good go, but couldn’t break through until it scored one run in the bottom of the seventh. University of Maryland-bound catcher Zayda Rocke homered for the winners and Peyton Lostin threw a five-hitter. Lauren Bedard threw well in defeat.
