Rep. Victoria Spartz responds to town hall fury
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz blames the hostile environment in a pair of town halls on the “radical left.”
The Republican congresswoman struggled to speak over boos and jeers from the audience during Friday night’s two
-hour town hall in Westfield. Spartz repeatedly called for “a conversation,” but the tone of the event was closer to an argument. There were multiple chants of “do your job,” and protests outside the venue.
Spartz hosted the events despite similar clashes between Republicans and their constituents prompting House Speaker Mike Johnson to urge GOP colleagues to skip town halls.
“I don’t think radical left has learned yet that shouting and screaming is not going to work – no one is going to be intimidated,” Spartz posted on social media following a second town hall Saturday morning in Muncie. “I still appreciate everyone who came to my town halls this week & hope at least some on the left were able to hear common sense policies we are trying to implement benefiting all Americans.”
Spartz streamed Friday night’s town hall on X, though the audio is difficult to make out through the video because of the back-and-forth with the audience. She did not stream Saturday’s town hall, though video on social media shows at least one person in attendance being removed.
A common criticism from the crowd focused on Spartz’ support of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Spartz previously announced she would not caucus with fellow Republicans this legislative session so she could spend more time supporting the newly-formed DOGE.
DOGE faced its own unique protests this weekend at demonstrations formed outside at least 200 Tesla dealerships Saturday in a coordinated effort against the automaker’s CEO, Elon Musk.
