ICE STORM WARNING: Periods of rain and freezing rain ongoing into Sunday
Mar 29, 2025
THE LATEST FROM STORM TEAM 5...
Rain and freezing rain showers have developed this afternoon associated with a slow moving area of low pressure just off to our south and west. We will continue to see waves of precipitation move in this evening and into the night time, staying rain for Green B
ay, Fox Valley and Lakeshore, with freezing rain across the Northwoods. Temperatures will hold steady below freezing up north, mid 30s for the rest.
Periods of on and off rain and freezing rain will continue throughout the day tomorrow. Highs will get into low 30s across the Northwoods, middle to upper 30s elsewhere. As our winds turn from the northeast to the north and north west, this will help pull in cooler air at both the lower and middle levels. This will open up the opportunity for freezing rain for the Fox Valley and Lakeshore, and as we head deeper into Sunday night, some light snow is possible.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY went into effect for Brown, Door, Outagamie and Waushara counties at 5pm Saturday and will run through 7pm Sunday. We will have to monitor if a) this gets expanded further south and b) the time is extended later into Sunday night. These have been issued for snow and ice accumulations and impact to travel.
Across the Northwoods and into Waupaca and Shawano counties, an ICE STORM WARNING is in effect from 5pm Saturday through 7pm Sunday. Ice accumulations will range between 0.25 and 0.5", with localized higher amounts and the potential of snow accumulations. If you dont have to be on the roads, it is advised to stay home. If you have to, drive slowly and carefully and give yourself extra time.
About the changeover to snow, this has been difficult to predict, but there could be about an inch or two of snow on the ground. As lows fall into the twenties Sunday night, the ice will likely be covered by the snow, so slippery travel is still possible long after the precipitation exits.
Monday, morning clouds followed by afternoon sunshine. Don't rest too long, because another messy storm arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday. Milder and brighter weather to close out the week.
