Trans community to host march honoring Transgender Day of Visibility

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The Rochester transgender community and allies will be hosting a march Sunday to seek safety, recognition, and action ahead of Transgender Day of Visibility, which is March 31.
The march will take place in Rochester at Martin Luther King Jr. Park at 1 p.m. Organizers sa
y the march is also a movement. Leaders in the Rochester community are urging local and state officials to "move beyond statements of support" and take action to protect transgender lives.
The rally will feature speeches from local trans leaders, activists, and members of the community addressing the need for:
Increased housing stability, employment protection, and safety measures to prevent violence against the trans community, especially Black and Brown transgender people.
Stronger protections for trans youth in schools, including anti-bullying measures and access to gender-affirming care.
The Gender Identity Respect, Dignity, and Safety (GIRDS) Act, which aims to protect trans people in incarceration and detention.
