Trenton Softball Hall of Fame to welcome Mark “Juice” Heltzman as part of 2025 Class
Mar 29, 2025
Among the deserving inductees in the Men’s Player Division at the Trenton Softball Hall of Fame’s annual banquet in May will be Mark “Juice” Heltzman.
A strong defensive player in the outfield and first base, Heltzman had a distinguished 22-year career that included stints with some of the t
op teams in the area.
A left-handed power and high-average hitter who retired at the end of the 2007 season, Heltzman was a member of teams that won 10 league titles in Mercer County Park Commission and Hamilton Receation leagues. These teams included Altimore Concrete, Princeton Golf and Tennis, Bowen Communications and Mercer Safe & Lock.
Managed by Trenton Softball Hall of Fame member Harvey Hyman, Altimore Concrete won Mercer American League crowns in 1996 and 1998, and finished fifth at an NSA World Series.
Heltzman’s tournament resume is equally as impressive. His first big tournament team was Tip’s Hardware out of Tuckerton, which won USSSA and ASA Class B state titles in1989. Also that year, Heltzman played in the first of his 18 Trentonian Tournaments and was named to the All-Tourney team after helping Peter’s Place team finish second.
He was also a member of the successful Grapevine tournament team that won numerous state titles. Grapevine played on the highest Open Class level and in addition to winning state championships, it captured a Mid-Atlantic Class A Regional title with Heltzman playing a key role. One of those Grapevine teams finished fourth at the USSSA Class B World Series in 1992.
As would be expected from a player of his abilities, Helzman was often named to all-tournament teams and was a member of four teams that won Trentonian Tournament titles.
The other inductees in the Men’s Player Division are Eddie Ervin, Kirk Hvasta and Ernie Henderson. Tim Gandy will join the hall in the Player/Manager division and the sponsor is Mannino’s Pizza/Restaurant.
The banquet will be held on May 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course. Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting Artie Kearns nddart@aol.com 609-771-6143,. or John Adubato at john_adubato@yahoo.com 609-273-4496. ...read more read less
