16 people displaced after house fire in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A total of 16 people from four different families were displaced from their home following a house fire on Saturday morning.
According to Battalion Chief Edward Dwyer of the Providence Fire Department, calls came in just before 8 a.m. for a report of a basement fire at
a home on Sorrento Street.
Dwyer said the fire took about a half hour to knock down, with the fire being contained to the basement, but smoke damage throughout the building.
Fire crews did have to rescue one person from the fourth floor, but that person was not injured. Two cats are also missing from the home.
One firefighter did suffer an eye injury and was taken to the hospital to be treated.
The Red Cross is assisting those affected by the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
