Conditions "favorable" for progress fighting Table Rock, Persimmon Ridge fires
Mar 29, 2025
(WSPA) - State forestry service officials are hopeful fire crews will begin seeing progress in their efforts to contain a wildfire at Table Rock State Park.
In a daily update video, Derrick Moore, operations section chief for the Southern Area Blue Team, said on Saturday efforts to contain the wi
ldfire burning at Table Rock State Park are showing signs of promise.
Along the eastern and southeastern edge of the fire, crews will continue on Saturday to use strategic burns and bulldozer lines to keep the fire from spreading east of Table Rock State Park.Moore said if conditions allow, firefighters may also start burn out operations on the western edge of the fire in order to limit the amount of fuel wildfires will find if the fire continues to spread.

"There's a lot of pieces that we have to put together. Right now they are all lining up," Moore said. "The weather is in our favor and resources are in our favor so we may see a lot of additional smoke on the western and southwestern area of the fire today, but no concerns that is just taking care of good conditions and that is a benefit to us and the containment of the fire."
The Table Rock Fire has so far burned an estimated 10,904 acres. The fire did move beyond the containment areas on the northern side of the park and spread into Transylvania County, Moore said. Firefighters there are working to protect structures near the fire, and crews will continue to patrol and try to push the fire back on Saturday.
"We are catching it and hooking it in where we can," Moore said.
Firefighters in Greenville County also saw "good progress" in battling the Persimmon Ridge fire, Moore said. The fire has burned more an estimated 2,078 acres as of Friday afternoon.
The western edge of the fire has been fought back inside the previously build containment lines, and the southeastern edge of the fire was showing "solid containment" on Friday, according to Moore.
"That's a piece of ground we can patrol and keep eyes on and feel really secure with," he said.
