Yesterday was a comfortable and breezy day across Hampton Roads as temperatures reached the upper 70s with wind gusts near 30 mph! We will continue to experience a strong southwesterly breeze this weekend which will keep temperatures well above normal for this time of year.
Weekend Forecast
Th
e reason for this abnormally warm weather is due to high pressure off the East Coast and a developing area of low pressure across the Midwest. This setup is causing southerly flow which is pulling warmer air in from the southern Untied States. Additionally, a stationary front across the Great Lakes and Northeast is keeping cold air well to our north.
Regional Weather Map
Throughout your Saturday afternoon, expect very warm weather along with a good deal of sunshine. Highs will likely be on either side of 80 degrees and winds out of the southwest at 10-20mph. Along with the warmth, it will be comfortable as well with dew points in the 50s so get outside and enjoy before dew points climb for the rest of the weekend!
High Temperatures Today
For Sunday, it will remain warm and breezy with highs back near 80 degrees. However, there will be a little less sunshine as some more clouds roll into the region our ahead of our next storm system. I do not expect any rain to come with these clouds during the daylight hours but we could see a stray shower overnight.
Hourly Forecast for Tomorrow
Changes are on the way as we head into the start of the work week. As am area of low pressure moves east this weekend, a cold front will drop through the area late on Monday into early Tuesday morning.
GRAF Forecast Model
During the early portions of the day on Monday we will have more clouds than sunshine along with strong southerly winds. Temperatures ahead of the front will be in the 80s and possibly approaching the record of 85 degrees set in 1938! Whether we tie or break this record will all depend on how much sunshine we get during the afternoon hours.
Forecast Temps Monday
Now lets talk about the storm potential on Monday. The exact timing is subject to change but models seem to be in better agreement that a line of thunderstorms will move through the region during the evening and overnight hours. Heavy downpours along with strong to damaging wind gusts are the primary concerns. As a result, the Storm Prediction Center has the area in a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather.
