INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Citizens Energy Group has lifted their boil water advisory after a major water main break flooded the streets on east side of Indianapolis. While repairs are being made, devastating damage to cars and businesses remain.
Saturday morning, Citizens lifted their boil wate
r order for the east side, but some may still see lower water pressures until the damage is fully repaired.
“Citizens has completed testing required by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and confirmed that drinking water is safe and no longer needs to be boiled prior to drinking and cooking,” Citizens Energy Group said in the announcement.
22nd Street will remain closed for the next week.
“Customer safety is of the utmost importance at Citizens. We know water outages and boil orders are inconvenient, and we deeply appreciate customers’ patience and cooperation over the past few days.”
While Citizens Energy Group works to fix the water main break, people affected by the flooding are assessing the scope of the damages.
Dillon Amonet vehicle hasn’t moved since the streets were flooded Thursday. While the water is gone, the damage has already been done to Amonet’s car.
“My whole car was swamped with two and a half feet of water at least. It’s shorted. I tried to get in it. It shorted out,” Amonet said.
There’s mud everywhere, covering the car seats and floor mats. Amonet said the heated seats no longer work.
His Chevy no longer works, another blow to Amonet.
“I just lost my little brother on the 13th. I just lost my car. I’ve got a funeral to go Saturday and this has been hard on me,” he said.
The water main break on East 22nd Street and Dr. Andrew J Brown Avenue flooded several blocks of an east side neighborhood. While the rising water lasted for hours, the damage for others can take weeks or even months to recover.
“Not trying to be sad, just trying to stay strong,” Amonet said.
