WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported a near-miss between two aircraft at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) Friday. According to an FAA statement, a Delta flight was cleared for takeoff from DCA around 3:15 p.m. Delta said the flight was foll owing regularly scheduled service between DCA and Minneapolis-St. Paul. The plane left at the same time that four U.S. Air Force T-38 Talons were flying to Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover. The FAA said that the Delta aircraft got an onboard alert that another aircraft was nearby. Air traffic controllers gave corrective instructions to both aircraft. Cherry blossoms hit peak bloom, drawing large crowds to DC’s Tidal Basin Delta said that the flight had two pilots, three flight attendants and 131 customers on board its plane, which was an Airbus A319. "Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people. That’s why the flight crew followed procedures to maneuver the aircraft as instructed," Delta said in a statement.
