FAIRFAX, Va. (DC News Now) -- There's nothing like a sportscar that purrs -- unless it's coming from actual cats.
It was an unexpected team effort for some Virginia Department of Transportation workers, who rescued a mama and her two kittens from a car's engine in their Fairfax County parking lot
.
"No one was expecting this, or prepared for it, but it was super fun," said VDOT's Candance Trenum. "It was super heartwarming."
Trenum told DC News Now that on Tuesday, a VDOT worker was walking from the parking lot to their office building when "a tiny little black kitten just hopped down from the wheel well of [a parked car] and walked right up to her meowing."

That worker continued hearing meowing coming from the car, which Trenum says belonged to an employee who just drove from Fauquier County -- at least a 30-minute drive away.
VDOT employees, including equipment shop workers, came to the parking lot to rescue the kittens they heard from the car.
"Once the skid plate was off, it was just plucking those little babies out," Trenum said. "There were two hiding in the engine compartment."
The three cats, named Stormy, Andy, and Booger (for a little dot on his nose), were then adopted by VDOT workers. ...read more read less
