Some operating hours to return to normal at Sequoia, Kings Canyon
Mar 28, 2025
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Some museum and visitor center hours are returning to normal at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park less than a month after staff announced they were cut.
The announcement follows a ruling by a California federal judge that would reinstate 16,000
probationary employees.
On March 7, park staff had announced that the visitor centers and the Giant Forest Museum would only be open on select days from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The change cut over 60 hours out of park operations.
However, on Friday, park staff announced that both the Foothills Visitor Center and the Giant Forest Museum will return to their normal hours beginning Saturday. The two will once again be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Kings Canyon Visitor Center, which had its hours cut by more than 50% in early March, will now be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. Although the normal hours of operations were not restored, the center is now open 35% longer than it has been for the past three weeks.
All ranger-led programs are still canceled until further notice. ...read more read less
