CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Sen. Mark Warner heard from concerned nonprofits about federal funding cuts during a stop in Chesapeake Friday afternoon.
Representatives from nonprofits from across Hampton Roads came together in the ForKids Landmark Center in Chesapeake to talk about how recent fed

"There have been many shifts in in funding, in parameters around that funding, and it's led to a lot of uncertainty in our community,” said Charvalla West, president and CEO for United Way Virginia Peninsula.
Warner had a chance to hear directly from the nonprofits about how the cuts have affected them.
"We've actually had to see some of our nonprofits close because of the federal budget cuts," said Maerine Mitchell, president and CEO of Volunteer Hampton Roads.
Warner answered questions and brainstormed with the nonprofits as well as listened to their stories.
"They are now under a level of threat that is almost unprecedented," Warner said. "We've never seen this much disruption."
Warner said he’s going to continue to fight for funding for them. He also urged the group to form a coalition and put together a presentation for lawmakers that would showcase the work they all do to help their community.
“My job will be to say, 'All right, let's get people in the room to hear that presentation,'" Warner said. "And if there is value, and I think there will be, how we push back, particularly in Washington [D.C.], where these cuts are happening so randomly." ...read more read less
